New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Whitwell, Tennessee is a congregation of Tennessee-Georgia presbytery, Synod of the Southeast, of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.

We consider ourselves a part of the larger Body of Christ, and we seek to cooperate, fellowship, and work with our sister churches regardless of denominational ties. We are Presbyterian in our form of church government. We believe the system of Elders and the higher judicatories to be faithful models of the accountability required of Christian people in the New Testament.

We like to say we are a “John 3:16 church” because of one of the primary reasons we broke away from the main Presbyterian church in 1810. We Cumberlands live, believe, and practice a “Whosoever Will” gospel that affirms God’s sovereignty yet confirms each person’s free will choice to accept or reject God’s grace.

We are not PCUSA and we are not PCA. Along with our brothers and sisters in the CPCA (Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America) we claim our identity as Cumberlands, and we are happy to proclaim a gracious gospel to all in a warm yet reverent atmosphere.
